Police thinks father abandoned NZ toddler.

    Personal response:
I think that it’s real sad. I hope they find out who the girl’s parents are. I feel really sorry for her, but I have a feeling that if the little girl deosn’t see her parents for a long time, she might actully forget about them and think the caregivers are her family.

Jennifer, you are our most fantastic blogger.

This story is very interesting and I have just watched an interview on TV3 Campbell Live that showed an interview with one of the police officers in charge. They believe that the father has intentionally left the child at a train station shortly after arriving in Melbourne and has then travelled to America without her. The article you posted says these things in more detail. I personally cannot understand what reason he may have had to leave her behind like that and I do hope the locate the mother soon.

You can view a news clip here.

Keep up your great work Jennifer – I am sure you will be an inspiration to our class.Post some questions for people to follow up also.

By the way Room 29 – Keep a check on the new map that shows where our visitors are coming from…How cool!

Please keep us up to date on this one Jennifer.

Hi Jennifer! You made some really interesting points. I watched the news item on TV 3 news last night and I wondered how they identified that the toddler was a kiwi??? Do you have any ideas?

Andrew! What a cool page! I always think of doing this after each ICT meeting then get busy! What a silly excuse! Keep up the cool work!

  4.   Louisa on September 17, 2007 3:51 pm

    Hi

I agree with Jennifer that that poor girl is left alone and has no one that she knows around her.

Recently in New Zealand a politition called Peter Dunne wants to increase the driving age to 16. Hellan Clark thinks that this a not so good idea as young people in the country need to get around. I think that it is a good idea that they are making the driving age older as this will get more sensible drivers and there will be less crashes. The link is here.

  5.   Jennifer on September 17, 2007 4:35 pm

    Hi guys!

I have some more news about the poor girl ‘pumpkin’. If you look at the newspaper you will see some pictures of her father with her. Also it says something about her mother Anni and her father is a person who teaches people chinese kung fu.

    I hope ‘pumpkin’ is OK.

  6.   room29space on September 17, 2007 4:42 pm

Jennifer – please post a link to your information. I don’t think we will be able to go and buy the newspaper right now. Find some video news or an online news source.Have they found out who her mother is yet? Has the father been captured? What else has happened? Be specific.

There is some new information for you to check out right here.

Kylie is a teacher in our school and she thinks that all of you are doing an awesome job! Did you answer her questions Jennifer?

I have heard some information about the Mc Cann case today and I hope the someone can research this for us all.

  7.   Jennifer on September 17, 2007 6:56 pm

I think they knew she is a kiwi because of her passport. This world is going pretty scary, like with 2 big cases like the one about ‘pumpkin’ and the McCann story.

And they haven’t found out who her mother yet, but they have some heavy information about the father though.

I kinda have a feeling that something has happened to the mother. I hope not. Poor Pumpkin, she can’t find her family.

One of the latest stories is Colin McRae being killed in a Helicopter crash. His 5 year old son was also killed in the crash.
Colins dad had said that he was a fantastic Rally Car driver even though he had only been doing rally driving for three years.

I think that this is very sad because he was killed only a few meters from his own front door to his house. I also think that this is sad because his wife now has only herself because they were both fatally killed.

  9.   Jennifer on September 17, 2007 7:09 pm

    Hi Ella:

I agree, it is really sad and she’s like alone know. There also have been alot of trouble with driving as well. This world is getting scary! Big cases and serious injuries.

  10.   Kylie on September 18, 2007 7:49 am

Hey Jennifer! The passport! Of course! I hadnt considered that she might have her passport on her. When I was little we didnt have our own passports. The Law said that we could travel on either your mother or fathers passport. Thanks

  11.   Katie on September 18, 2007 7:56 am

    Hey Jennifer,
I have been reading your whats happening in the world comments and I totally agree with you. The world is turning out to be a pretty scary place. I can’t even begin to imagine what it will be like when I become a parent and my children are teenagers – trying to keep them out of danger.

    Keep up the fantastic blogging.

    Katie – Teacher

  12.   Jennifer on September 18, 2007 8:06 am

    Hi Kylie,

I did think it was a bit strange for her passport to be with her. Do you think the dad did it on purpose so they will find out who she is and her family? MAybe he wants someone else close to look after her and he takes a holiday.

    -Jennifer

    Hi room 29,

    I’ve got some news.
A 16 year old western Japanese girl killed her father with an axe. She confesses she didn’t like him, so she murdered him. What a terrible thing to do. Her father was found dead in his bed. This means he was most likely killed while sleeping.
What a sad, sad thing to do.

    Yours sincerely,

    Hannah

When did this happen? How was she caught? Are the rest of her family OK?

    hi!

I have some more news that happened today!

When I was looking on the tv3 news website I found an article about a sand erosion in Dunedin. Now they have to re-build the dune. There was no details on the article of why the dunes sliped. Please tell me if you think you know why. This may be why:

I think maybe the erosion was caused by people sliding down the dunes. I think that this is dangerous. This is why I probably saw fences around the dunes.
After they have built the dunes. I think they should make sure they dont have people sliding down the dunes so hopefully it does not happen again. Here is the place I found the sound clip and and article.

  19.   frankie on September 18, 2007 4:40 pm

    hi Andrew,

this video clip is about how daniel carters goal posts that he got for his 10th birthday
have gone world wide in a new Adidas ad.
    here is the link.

My response to this clip is that it is interesting that Daniel Carter is so famous that something that he had when he wans’t famous is now known by basically everyone in New Zealand.

Oh by the way Hannah do you no what happened to the girl after they found out that she had killed her own Father? also I agree with you, killing your own Father is very sad!

  20.   frankie on September 18, 2007 4:49 pm

    hi olivia

i read tht article you put on and i find it relly interesting that 30 people connected to the mccans including relatives used the car before the police got the car and tested it. this means that any of those people could have set it up.

I have found some more news about Pumpkin,

An asin lady was found in the back of a car outside Pupkins pearants house at 1pm today. In the article it said that the woman has not yet been idenified.

I think that this is so horribile and sad!
I think that Pumpkins father may possibly have killed his wife before he left.

I have a few questions puzzling me:

1.Did Pumpkins father kill the lady? and 2.Is she Pumpkins mother?

Here is a link to the article.

  22.   Hannah on September 18, 2007 5:17 pm

    Hi Jennifer,

I think lately you have made some great points. Also I do think that Pumpkin’s Dad left with her on purpose. Whether to show her identity and hope she is found and brought into a new family or to eventually get back to her and prove he’s her father. But I think it’s the first.

    Yours sincerely,

    Hannah

  23.   Jennifer on September 18, 2007 5:22 pm

    Hi

maybe pumpkins father wants to start a nw life, with another lady and must get rid of his other.

It is possible that something has happened to pumpkins mother, her father is a kung fu master! With swords which are now confiscated.

The woman might be pumpkins mother, but we’ll have to see what she looks like. He has been having meeting with other womans about his chinese mag. I once saw his daughter on the front cover!

    Hi Jennifer,
i’ve got some more newsabout Pumpkin,
They Have found an Asian woman in the boot of a car outside her Mt Roskill house (DEAD!!!)
    Creepy ah!!
another thing, is that when the father flew over to the U.S.A he flew via Auckland.

  25.   Jennifer on September 18, 2007 5:39 pm

    Hi Ella

Oh my gosh!!! I’m not sure if it’s pumpkin’s mother or not. They should actually post a picture of who t is. Maybe that woman saw what happened with her own eyes and soemeone killed her for it!

This is getting scary! I hope it’s not pumpkins mother. Also when I said that pumpkins mother pictures has appeared in 3 dating websites, maybe it wasn’t her, maybe someone is pretending to be her, someone who has her photo…

    -Jennifer

  26.   Jennifer on September 18, 2007 5:40 pm

    Hi Hannah,

That must be so scary for a daughter to kill her own father! She must be out of her mind! Some hatred can accur in families but this has gone too far!

without her parents, she wouldn’t evn exsist!!

  27.   room29space on September 18, 2007 5:46 pm

Hey – Great researching Room 29. I am enjoying the way that you are sharing your ideas and WELL DONE to those people inlcuding links to their information and an extra WELL DONE to those that are posting the questions on their mind.

Like I told you in class today – our world is ever changing, especially the news. Cases like ‘Pumpkin’ or the Mc Cann can be scary, but they are also reality and we would be naive and ignorant to pretend they didn’t exist. We also have to be aware the media can at times present only ‘facts’ they think thei readers or viewers will find interesting.

Once again – you are all the best! Keep on posting and asking questions and thinking about these new ideas.

I hope Jacob can tell us some more about the Mc Cann case as this one has really been on my mind.

  28.   Jennifer on September 18, 2007 5:50 pm

    Hi everyone!

I found something else out about pumpkin. Her ‘missing’ elder half-sister Grace Xue has called the police telling them that she is afe and well.

She hasn’t been around since 2000 and now finally appeared. Here is the link.

    Hi guys!

Guess what? The police have found another dead body, this time in the boot of pumpkin’s dad’s car! It might be her mother, but the police doesn’t know yet, because the body has rot and it’s hard to tell.

    Click the link.

    -Jennifer

Jennifer is it another body or is it the same one Ella told us about? Thanks from Andrew.

  30.   Louisa on September 18, 2007 6:03 pm

    Hi Ella and Jennifer,

That is terrible how they found that woman in the car.
On the news it said that pumpkins grandmother said that it is pumpkins mother in the boot.
Do you know when pumpkin’s mother was first seen in the boot because if pumpkin’s dad was in NZ when that woman was found dead, he may of murdered her.
I feel so sorry for that girl. I wounder if the father was planning to it with someone else.

Just a note Room 29 – Off the topic.

See that we had a visitor from Western Australia that left us a message? Click the visitors link at the top of this page. We are in the ‘Blog of the Hour’ at http://www.edublogs.org – WOW! Must be all the posting some of you are doing :) Have a look.

I have also posted some pics of some of you taken in class today – click the writing link. I will send home a letter tomorrow making sure it is OK with your parents and caregivers to have pictures from our class on this blog.

See you tomorrow. Keep up the great work.

  32.   Hannah on September 18, 2007 6:21 pm

    Hi Jennifer,

    You read my mind.
He was miserable so I can’t argue. He probably did something terrible to Anni, I am guessing he would of done much worse to Anni then he did to Pumpkin.
He probably did fall for another woman and wanted to start a new life. Bu ton how he has entered this new life he probably won’t like it much.
Also a asian woman’s body was found in the boot of a car in the abandoned mt roskill home of Nai Yin Xau (Pumpkins Dad). The body is not yet identified but it may be Anni’s.

Here is a helpful website you may want to use:

  33.   Hannah on September 18, 2007 6:42 pm

    Hi Jennifer,

I Know it’s terrible. She had no right to do it. Like you said hatred goes to far.
She confessed although it was obvious because she was found on the scene covered in blood. Sadly it does not tell when she murdered her father or if the rest of her family is okay. It isn’t very complex with information.

    Yours sincerely,

    Hannah

    Hi everyone

My news this week is about CROC SHOES.
lots and lots of kids around the world own a pair of croc shoes they are comortable and you can wear them with anything and any where. But there has been cases where kids have got hurt from wearing these shoes. one case involed a four year old boy called Rory Mc Dermott. He was wearing croc shoes going up a escalator and his foot got stuck. His mother managed to yank him free but the nail on his big toe was almost completly ripped off causing heavy bleeding. at first Rorys mother had no idea what caused his foot to get stuck. it was only when a person at the hospital suuggested that it might of been the shoes. so his mother search crocs and escalators and al these stories came up.

in japan last week they had received 39 reports about crocs or similar shoes getting stuck in escalators.most of these reports appear to invole small childen some as young as 2 years old.

This is a web site Make sure you read it – It could affect you!

  37.   erin on September 18, 2007 8:15 pm

Another thing – Did you know that pumpkin’s father knows martial arts?
Really … well he even taught me once in Onehunga community center!

  38.   room29space on September 18, 2007 8:34 pm

Well – it seems that the case of poor ‘Pumpkin’ has taken a bad turn, with the discovery of a body. I was personally thinking that there must have been a very bad reason for the father to leave his daughter like that.

Well done for posting for the 1st time Erin and I was wondering if you could tell us a bit about what you remember of the man that taught you – there is a saying that ‘it is a small world’. I guess that is the case with you being taught by him in Onehunga.

Brittany – amazing work. This is a great article to show us, many children are wearing these shoes and I am interested to see what kind of comments this will generate. Do you ever wear these yourself? Do you think they are actually unsafe or is the media trying to scare us? Let us know.

  39.   Brittany on September 18, 2007 9:12 pm

    hi Andrew

thank you for your comment and i do have a pair of Crocs.my mum was reading the NZ herald at work today and she saw a story on Crocs. She told me, then i came home and i researched it on the internet. Well, all the time i have had these shoes i have had no problem but i will still be careful on escaltors and i don’t think that the media is trying to scare us they may be trying to tell us so we could keep safe.

  43.   Louisa on September 19, 2007 8:08 am

    Hi Brittany,

I never knew that crocs were not safe! The holes in the crocs could allow sharp things to fall into the shoe. Since heaps of people are wearing them I thought they were good. Those storys about crocs, that you said sound horrible. They are not tight shoes so they could easily fall off at a bad time.

    Louisa

  44.   frankie on September 19, 2007 5:58 pm

    Hi rm 29

This is some new news on the Madeleine Mccan case. The police have discovered that the twins nappys were in the same hire car that Madelienes DNA was found. The twins DNA is nearly identical to Madeleines so the police find it possible that what they thought was Madelienes DNA could turn out to be the twins. Here is the link.

    GABBIE

  48.   Louisa on September 19, 2007 7:06 pm

    Hi Frankie,

That is interesting that the DNA may have been the twins. If what they thought was Madeleine’s DNA turns out to be the twins then I wounder whether the twins are injured since there was hair and blood in the boot of the car. The twins must of seen where the parents took Madeleine.

    Hi guys!

For the Medeleine McCann case, hmmm I’m not so sure. It is quite possile for the blood to be the twins. But what I’m confused is that why is there blood and hair that belonged to the twins? Mr and Mrs McCann should actually tell the poilce if thats the case.

    This is getting really scary!

    Sorry!

  57.   Louisa on September 20, 2007 7:43 am

    Hello Jennifer,

If the parents did do it then hopefully it will not inspire the twins to be murders in the future. I think that Madeleine was taken because she is more mature since she is older and if they took the twins then Madeleine could of told the police what has happened. There is no one apart from the twins who can say what happened and their too young.

Hi Room 29 – Thanks to Frankie and Gabbie for posting about the Mc Cann case. You have some interesting information there; this case just keeps getting more complicated.

What do you think will happen next in this case now that they believe that it could possibly the twins DNA and not Madeliene’s? Try and find out if there was blood there and find out about the sleeping pills that were mentioned.

  62.   Jennifer on September 20, 2007 3:33 pm

    Hi andrew:

If it was the twin’s blood, then why is there sleeping pills inside the blood? Did the parents make the twins eat the pills?

    -Jennifer

  63.   Louisa on September 20, 2007 5:00 pm

    Hi

From what I know Madeleine’s parents are both docters so it would be unlikely for a docter to give an over dose of somehting bad to their child. Maybe the parents gave Madeline heaps of sleeping pills while they took her away so she didn’t make a seen for them.

    Louisa

  64.   Jennifer on September 20, 2007 5:45 pm

Hi Room 29 – I thought I would put in an update to the ‘Pumpkin Case’. Her father is still on the run in Los Angeles, apparently it has been big news in the China Town part of that city. One of NZ’s top police officers has cut short a holiday he was having in Rome so that he can help in LA. The father Nai Yin Xue, sounds like a hard man to find. He has lived in LA before so knows some people there and also knows his way around the city. I hope that he is found soon. ‘Pumpkin’ or her real name Qian Xun Xue is still in Melbourne but is now being seen by her Grandmother who has come from China. Here is a link to TVNZ news.

Another piece that is unrelated and may appeal to those who enjoy gaming consoles. Halo 3 – one of Microsoft XBOX 360’s biggest selling series – will be released tonight at 12 midnight. It is meant to be a fantastic game, which Microsoft hopes will improve the sales of its 360 consoles. Have a read.

    Hi andrew!

He is pretty hard to find, maybe he has someone in america that helped him or maybe he is hiding in the forest somewhere!

Also Grace, pumpkin’s half older sister wants to look after her as the grangmother thinks the same. What’s best for pumpkin is what’s important.

    Hey Look At This!

Last night I was reading in bed when mum came into my bedroom and told me that there were some fire engines outside! She asked my sister Caitlyn and me to come with her to find out what was happening.

When we got outside we also noticed two police cars and two other fire engines.
Then we asked a policeman what was happening and he answered that some one had died in a flat behind our house, and also that an ambulance was coming and to go inside for our own safety.

I hope to bring further updates.

    Hi hamish,

Omigosh! That must be scary, eventhough it isn’t much to do with you, they live near you!

    -Jennifer

  69.   room29space on September 25, 2007 8:59 pm

Sounds interesting Hamish. Let us know if you find out anything extra.

Here is a new twist in the Mc Cann case. Now police are analysing a new photo that might be Madeleine.

Take a look and let us know what you think.

  70.   Jennifer on September 25, 2007 10:06 pm

    Hi andrew!

omigosh! I think it is medeliene! Is this case solved…
I hope it is actually. It will really help. So maybe she didn’t die, but how would all this link to all the other evidence?

    -Jennifer

  71.   Hamish on September 26, 2007 8:40 am

Well, Jennifer, it was more exciting then scary.

I forgot to mention, the police knocked on our neighbour’s door to tell them to stay inside because of chemicals and put up a yellow tape with these words on it “HOT ZONE”.

Firemen were going down there drive way with gas masks on! After they did this they walked to a shower they had made with three hoses on the road. They closed the entire road off!

I think the Medeliene case MAY BE solved!

    Hamish

  72.   Jennifer on September 26, 2007 9:40 am

    Hi hamish:

    exciting? someone has died.

anyway I’m really confused on the McCann case! If that girl is madelienie, then what about the hair and the blood. It isn’t linked so it’s still a mystery.

    -Jennifer

  73.   room29space on September 26, 2007 10:05 am

Room 29 – Place a judgement on the picture.

Is it clear? Is it easy to see the girl well? Is Madeleine that size? Would someone like the people shown in the picture want to travel to another country and kidnap a child? Would a woman carry a four year old child on her back like this? Could this just be another case of hype? Or is it really Madeleine Mc Cann?

Remember when we judged the article about the UFO in Ahipara?

  74.   Hamish on September 26, 2007 10:23 am

Well, Jenifer, it was exiteing because it was quite a big event with at least two police cars, at least three fire engines and one ambulance.

  75.   Hannah on September 26, 2007 5:07 pm

    Hi,

Sorry I haven’t been on here for a while.

The picture may actually be Madeleine, but that’s only a small possibility because lots of girls from a distance may look like her, especially in a fogged up photo.
I too hope it is Madeleine, it would make the case so much easier to solve.
I hope she is found soon!

    Yours sincerely,

    Hannah

  76.   Hannah on September 26, 2007 5:28 pm

    Hi,

Pumpkins Dad did the same to Pumpkins half sister. He took her from China to New Zealand when she was 19, and after 2 months he abandoned her.

    Here’s the site.

Also Pumpkin reunited with her grandmother on the 26th. Her grandma is intending to take Pumpkin to china with her.

Pumpkins Dad must of killed Anan Lui. That is a terrible thing to do. He is HORRIBLE!!!

  77.   Jennifer on September 28, 2007 9:43 am

    Hi hannah

I know! He did do the same to Grace, so she escaped and didn’t want to talk to him again.

Hi Room 29 – I see the posting has slowed down. I hope you are enjoying your holiday break.

Just updating a couple of our main topics in this post. The police have still not located “Pumpkin’s” father and he will be profiled on America’s Most Wanted, which is a show played to help find criminals. You can read it about it here.

The news about the Madeleine McCann case photograph turned out to be another child in Morroco whose family were shocked to see a picture of their daughter being shown all around the world. Someone had obviously taken the photo while that family was out walking. New ’sightings’ are coming in from all around the world each day.

In a latest twist police are now asking to speak to an ex-maid, who was sacked from the resort that the McCann’s were staying at. An e-mail from an unknown source suggested that maybe she had abducted Madeleine as revenge for being fired from the resort. Another scenario that has been suggested by police, is that Madeleine died after falling down a staircase and damaging her head as she landed. This is only speculation as this point.

    See you next Monday!

  79.   Jennifer on September 30, 2007 1:49 pm

    hi andrew!

So it’s not medeleine! This is getting more and more werid.

    Hi Andrew

i was watching a T.V programme, and it had the psychic from ’sensing murder’ on it and they said that she asked if she could help them find out what happened to Madeleine McCann. but geuss what? they didn’t want to have a psychic help find out what happened to there daughter.

    how fishy is that?

    bye for now,

    Erik

  81.   Hamish on October 7, 2007 4:31 pm

    Hey Andrew!

The maid may have used the car! That would clear the case up!What do you Think?

    Hey Erik!

They may have thought that it would cause them alot of discomfort and that it may be wrong!

    Hamish

  82.   Room29Space on October 8, 2007 3:06 pm

Hi Hamish – It seems that the maid story was another false lead. The McCann case is still looking like a mystery that needs to be solved.

    Thanks

    Andrew

  83.   Hamish on October 8, 2007 3:56 pm

Could you give me a link to prove this Andrew?

    Hamish

  84.   jackliu on October 8, 2007 4:58 pm

    Hey Andrew

I think the murderer killed McCann and used the parents car to drive to another place and left her there and took the car back with blood.

That was my prediction – see ya for now.

  85.   room29space on October 8, 2007 5:40 pm

This is a response for Hamish. It seems that I cannot locate an article stating that they have confirmed that this lead was false or has lead to nothing. The latest articles mention that the English police are investigating the claim but I cannot see any mentioning locating her and the results of that.

The head Portugese investigator was fired shortly after the maid claim was e-mailed to a website about the Prince of Wales (Charles). The investigator made statements that he thought it was ridiculous that English police were considering following the maid claim and that the English police were working with the McCann parents. He was removed from the McCann case soon after. The link for this information can be found here.

The latest update has said that the DNA found from Madeleine is not enough to suggest that she is dead. Tests are still be carried on on hair samples and the results will be announced later this week.

    Thanks for asking me Hamish.

    Hi guys,

I’ve found some new information about the Madeliene McCann case. It tuns out that there has been a hint that says that Madeliene’s father might not atchully be her real father!

This is some information I have retrieved from the websites I have visited:

In the latest of a series of increasingly personal smears against the McCanns, a Portuguese newspaper has claimed that Gerry McCann is not Madeleine’s real father.

Sensationalist tabloid ‘24 horas’ claimed that Portuguese police suspected the heart surgeon was not Madeleine’s natural father.

With the front page headline, ‘Police suspect Gerry is not Maddie’s dad’, the paper reported detectives were intending to use DNA samples to confirm their suspicions he was not the donor behind the successful IVF treatment that led to her birth.

There are also new people on the search team:

The new man in charge of the hunt for missing Madeleine McCann has signalled his intention to solve the case by bringing in a crack team.

Gerry and Kate McCann have welcomed news that one of Portugal’s top cops is taking over the case. They hope Paulo Rebelo will quickly clear them as suspects – and get on with the search for their daughter, their family spokesman Clarence Mitchell says.

    Here’s the links.

Hi guys – I am glad you have found the game interesting and thought provoking. We will be using the ideas and plot functions of this game in our writing later this term. It would be cool for you to try out an introduction based on the ideas you have gained from playing it – do this in the writing section. There are a range of problems and solutions throughout the game, this is very much a narrative writing structure.

Eden, as I discussed with the class yesterday, the link is on our blogroll. This is located on the right hand side of this page. Oliver RD and BJ, have a look at the link, it is to Samorost 1.

Have fun – and remember the story ideas.

Samorost 2 is taking too long to load! My parents get annoyed so I can’t play it. :(

Also if Madeleine’s father isn’t her father, it is possible he might’ve done it…

    Hello everyone!

I know something…I have found a site that helps you with maths! They give you maths questions for you to answer! You also have options. Where you can choose your level, if you want to be timed or not (Plus you get to choose the max time) You can choose how much questions you have.

I think it’s great for kids to practice their maths. They also correct your answer. If you want to go on it, you can also tell others your score here make you sure you add the details. we can only do that if andrews OK with it ;) .

    hi ya,

Gas giant planets can get twice as close to their stars as Mercury is to the Sun without evaporating, a new computer simulation suggests. The work suggests the ‘hot Jupiters’ discovered on tight orbits around their stars are in no immediate danger of boiling away into space.
Many gas giants have been found very close to their parent stars – a handful even lie less than 6% of Mercury’s distance from the Sun. But it has never been clear just how close planets could get without heating up so much that their atmospheres would start escaping or “evaporating” into space.
A new study suggests this threshold lies more than twice as close as Mercury’s distance to the Sun (or about 0.15 astronomical units, where 1 AU is the distance between the Earth and the Sun). Tommi Koskinen of University College London, UK, led the team that carried out the study.
The outermost layer of a planet’s atmosphere is where the action is as far as evaporation is concerned. The star blasts this layer with ultraviolet light and X-rays, which heat it up. The atmosphere can stay cool and avoid evaporating if it can radiate enough energy back into space in the form of infrared light.
To see how the balance between these two effects shifted with distance from the star, Koskinen’s team created a 3D computer simulation of the upper atmosphere of a planet with the mass of Jupiter orbiting a Sun-like star. They found that evaporation did not occur until the planet was within about 40% of Mercury’s distance from the Sun – about twice as close as a previous estimate.

I got all this news from:www.space.newscientist.com/article/dn13006-planets-can-survive-extreme-roasting-by-their-stars.html

    Hi Guys!

Sir Edmand Hillary (The first person to climb mount everast) has died!

It is all over the news in NZ and there is a state funeral happening in auckland as I type. Mum isnt going to the funarel but is watching is watching it on tv right now! I can hear the music right now! Mum has got angrey at my brother for drving his remote controled car around while she has been trying to listen to the tv! Now she has locked my brother outside! (He he he!)

Anyway, Ed Hillary did not die of sickness or anything, just old age. But still, he had a great life. I think that he also did other great things in his life -other then climbing a mountain like: bilding scools and hospatals in Nepal to help the people. He was a verry kind man and did not care for himself but more for others.

I think lots of people are sad that this great man has died but no one can live forever and I think he will be remeberd for the great and fan tastic things he did.

    Tessa

  99.   Louisa on January 22, 2008 7:56 pm

    Hello Tessa,

I was watching it on TV at my grandparents house and I also went to see him for the last time. I was standing on the side of the road watching him go by.
It is very sad but he did have a good life.

Here is a TV 3 video clip.

It is an even more sad thing because he is from New Zealand and he is an icon for our country. He even got himself on the five dollar note!

I was shocked to hear this news.
At school last year in reading my group read a book on Sir Ed Hillary so I learnt more about him. It makes me feel even more sad because he did not only climb Mt Everest but he helped schools and many other things as well.

I thought I would come back and post this one here due to our following of the Pumpkin case when it first occured.

Pumpkin’s father has now been caught in the US. Here is a link to a news article.

I am glad they have finally found him and Pumpkin’s mothers family can rest knowing that he has been found.

    Hello,

I was so happy when I saw that he was caught. I hope he is in jail for the rest of his life.

I really like the new blog!

Yes – finally he has been caught + did you know he got fatter to disguise himself?
